I am finding that many people who get in contact with me have some good ideas for a new product, but the biggest problem is that the funding is just not there! I have a few small solutions, and first starting with local friends and family members, I know that friends and family can seem to be a bit frustrating to work with, though you will find that they might be your best support line. The fact that you’re trying to accomplish a goal means more to them, and it’s also inspiring. First test your idea on a few people close to you and get some feedback, if your idea is good you will know very quickly. Your next step is to come up with some type of rendering of this product so you and your investment team can understand the pros and cons of the product. Like most new products the process of the idea to the finished product is extremely time consuming and also be stressful. Remember to take your time with understanding different avenues of accomplishing your goal. One of the hardest parts of these new ideas is trusting those around you to keep it a secret until you can actually get the product on the market. This is where the non-disclosure comes in, and in most cases this scares people, probably because they have a nervous condition, and they think if they sign something they are locked into some kind of contract. In all actuality this is not true and it’s a way for people to relax and not worry about unknown circumstances. The next thing to accomplish or establish is the product identity. What is the product and what market will it be used for, this is why you have built a team, for understanding and developing a good idea of the products overall use and marketability. Nothing is for free so the best thing to do is to first spend the money the right way, because you want a little to go a long way. The product needs a value, an image, something that your team can look at, this will cost you but this is the key ingredient to moving forward, a picture means a million words. Engineering on the other had is extremely difficult to understand, and thats probably why there are so few of them. When you find the right engineer for your team of vendors you will easily find that they need more information from you than you originaly thought. So take your time and listen and understand what kind of things are important to your new product.

This idea I came up with about 5 years ago, I was disgusted with how I would pull on cords and either pull them apart or get them stuck on a door or window. So the solution was clear to me, and I also understood the point of actually protecting the plug ends at the same time. This product I made to protect, water proof, and make easy to use while keeping the worker happy. It's quite simple actually, the plugs are connected and you just snap this two part clear plastic case together. It's sleek and see through so if you have lighted plugs you can see that and know that your power is on and ready. While designing this product I did keep in mind the use for large commercial projects, so I want to make the part out of the strongest material. Pros of this product are easily understood, they allow for your cords to last longer on a job site, by eliminating water, dirt, or contaminates to enter the plugs ends. Also if stepped on or something heavy falls on them they will be protected, this worse part of a plug is the constant abuse of the male and female ends, this is the solution to making a cord last longer.
